Years of experience have taught me one thing:
It’s ALL about the music. Technology has evolved and changed the way we make music and will continue to do so. That’s exciting.

But some of the greatest music of all time was recorded under less than ideal conditions and with inferior equipment. Certainly, the search for better solutions will aid in capturing the moment more accurately. But it’s all about that moment, the message, and the ultimate purpose: to communicate and to entertain. That lies at the core of what I do.

When the artist says to me, “That’s EXACTLY how I heard it in my head” or “It’s BETTER than how I pictured it!”, then I know I’ve done my job. For me, if the goosebumps are working, then that’s payday.

I’ve had the opportunity to wear many hats on diverse projects:
Engineer, Producer, A&R,  in Pop, Rock, Country, Americana, Folk Rock, Jazz, Classical, Latin, Fusion, music for Film...

But the one thing I’m most known for is mixing. Let’s be honest: Not everyone can mix. It’s a specialized skill that requires a 10,000’ view of the song and it’s intentions, the ability to identify areas of the recording that need attention (tone, dynamics, timing, tuning), years of experience and perspective and to bring out the most in the music. After all, this is the mix that people will hear forever.

If you are struggling with your mix, hit me up. I’ll be happy to put it up in my studio and give you some feedback.  Be prepared for an honest assessment. My hope is to help you get the most out of your musical creations.

The Bob Seger album, “I Knew You When” marks the thirty-ninth year of working with
Bob! I transitioned from Assistant Engineer
to Overdub Engineer, Tracking Engineer,
Mixing Engineer to Co-Producer. We
continue our relationship today and I’m so
proud to have been a part of his legacy.

This last year, he made the rounds one more time, announcing this as his farewell tour.I had the pleasure of seeing his last gigs at Pine Knob and will be posting a video of my experience there soon. Check back!

With the recent stay-at-home orders across the globe, I’m hoping more people are taking the challenge to record and release music to fuel the soul. I’m happy to be a part of that process and welcome your projects. I’ve been “mixing at home” for years now...

My good friend Christian Cummings has a
podcast called “After the Session” that is
basically industry pros, hanging out and
talking shop... not necessarily all the techie
stuff you can find elsewhere but the juicy
stories of past sessions. I helped him pilot the series and did his first show.

I was also more recently interviewed by the
great Bobby Owsinski for his Inner Circle podcast. Check it out!

I’ve been fortunate to be able to work in a lot of different musical circles.
